Pilates

General Information

Pilates is a mind body technique developed by Joseph Pilates that focuses on core strength, balance and flexibility. He based the technique on six principles that he defined as centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing and flowing movement. Pilates teaches body awareness, strength, good posture, proper breathing and flexibility. By strengthening the abdominals and deep muscles of the spine with low impact exercises it helps to develop a strong core. Pilates involves exercises on a mat and on specialized pieces of equipment.
